Rasp president of the retil estate firm of Rasp Brothers Omaha who died Sunday at his home in Omaha July 19 from heart disease after a short illness lived ln-Ris ing City during his childhood an youth He had been a resident of Omaha 28 years and had been in business there 25 years of age president of the Board a director Bible Institute and a former Omaha by his wife and three and Mrs Conrad in Butler his childhood farm southwest parents have in death are to be held at the Brethren Rev A Burial will be cemetery Omaha Mr Rasp is brothers Fred Omaha with associated in bust of Elkhart sisters Mrs Eagle and Mrs Mrs Harry Becker resides Linwood July 21 Mrs Marie Kracman resident of Linwood and vicinity for many years widow of the late Frank Kracman died on Wednesday July 15 at the home of her daughter Mrs George Dorsey near Linwood with whom she had made her home since October 1930 Her age was 83 years 3 months and 15 days Death was from complications of old age and cancer of the stomach Funeral services were held at -St Mary's Catholic church Linwood by Rev Victor Mlejnek of Abie The Requiem High Mass was sung by St church choir The pallbearers grandsons of Mrs Kracman were William Kracman Will Spatz Albin Kracman Longin Rezac Louis Dorsey and Edward Dorsey Mrs Kracman was born in Budech Czechoslovakia March 15 1848 She was married to Frank Kracman in the old country and in the eafly came to the United States and Nebraska Mr Kracman homesteading land six miles southeast of Linwood They retired from the farm about 20 years ago and moved to Linwood Mr Kracman passed away about ten years ago Nine children were born to Mr and Mrs Kracman Seven children three daughters and four sons survive They are Mrs Anton Spatz of Brainard Mrs Frank Belik of Chambers Mrs George the Spirit of the Wilderness in Its most playful mood with the conquering of the forest and suffering of the first settlers from fever famine and ness and Conrad death Episode Five will feature Ind and by three the removal of the county seat from Savannah to David City and Episode Six will depict one of the first marriages in Butler county Episode Seven and the final scene depicting Pot of the lasts for 25 minutes with more than 300 characters in the scene at one time symbolic dances of every nation closing with all nations amalgamated into one the United States of America Special costumes brilliant special lighting hundreds of feet of specially scenery and a stage 70 by 90 feet in size constitute the equipment to be used in presentation of the pageant the real estate years He was 50 He city park and supper Paige early-day resident of Butler county and prominent in civic affairs in pioneer days a civil war veteran brother-in-law of Judevine of David City died on the of July 5 at the home of his son Park Paige near Austin in his 92nd year He had been in poor health for some time due in great measure to his advanced age and had been quite feeble for a month preceding his death Flmeral services were held at the Park Paige home Monday morning July 6 in charge of Rev Salisbury pastor of the Wood River Presbyterian Church and a former pastor and friend of the Paige family after which the body was taken to Ft Collins Colo where funeral services were held on Wednesday July 8 and burial was by side of the grave of Mrs Paige All of Mr children were present at the funeral Elbridge Paige was born near Ft Wayne Ind January 21 1840 He spent his youth in Indiana and enlisted for service in the civil war serving four years with the 88th Indiana Volunteer Infantry In 1867 he was united in marriage to Anna Greenwalt Mr and Mrs Paige moved to Nebraska and Butler county the year following their marriage homesteading near David City To them were born six children five sons and one daughter The daughter Blanche passed away in 1900 The sons are Charles of Ft Collins Colo Frank of Cove Ore Park living near Austin Nebr Jesse of Mitchell Nebr and Lloyd of Sunnyside Wash Mr Paige also leaves 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren The Paige family resided in Butler county 19 years then moving to Sherman county They lived on a farm near Ashton until 1905 Mr and Mrs Paige then moved to Ft Collins Colo where several of their sons lived Mrs Paige died there in 1918 Two years ago Mr Paige returned to Nebraska to make his home with his son Park and family Mr Paige was an active figure in the early-day civic life of Butler county and David City He was the first superintendent of schools of the county and was a member of the county board of supervisors He assisted in the surveying when David City was started Since the origination of the annual Butler County Picnic and Old Reunion several Years ago lie usually wrote aJet-ter each year preceding the offerings The Kracman Children and Families Murried in Canton Ohio Rising City July 20 The marriage of Miss Margaret Bakgr daughter of Mrs Anna Baker of Rising City to Rev Albert Birch son of Mr and was solemnized Tuesday morning July 14 at 8:00 at the Trinity Lutheran church In Canton with Rev Dr Herman officiating The double-ring ceremony was used Mrs John Hall of Springleld Ohio was the only attendant and Mr Paul Cronenwett of Cleveland Ohio served as best man Mrs Birch was graduated from the Rising City high school With the class of 1920 She attended Midland college Fremont after which she taught in the primary department of the schools in Lewellen NebFr Foffowing thts she attended Wittenberg college Spring field For the past two years she has been an instructor in religious education in the public schools of Dayton The groom has attended Wittenberg college and Northwestern Lutheran theological seminary Minneapolis Following a honeymoon trip through Wisconsin the young couple will make their home in Zumbrota Minn where the groom is pastor of the Goodhue-Zum brota parish Betsy Ross Canning Club The Betsy Ross Canning club met at the home of Betty and Ruth Evans July 21 Roll call was answered by each girl telling her weight All members were present A demonstration of how to test fruit jars rubbers and lids was given also a health demonstration At close of the May 28 resided In the Jordan apartments In David City until moving to Loma a few weeks ago with Mr Litwiller who with his father has charge of highway construction work was fatally injured in an automobile accident Thursday af ternoon July 16 and passed away at the Seward hospital at 3:30 Friday afternoon The fatal accident occurred as Mrs Litwiller and Miss Stella Graff of Seward were on their way to Crete in Miss se dan At the intersection of the Sunshine highway and street road six miles south of Seward Miss car crashed headon with a produce truck going to Lincoln The impact threw the sedan about 30 feet into a ditch and almost totally demolished it The truck was badly damaged but the driver escaped with minor injuries Mrs Litwiller and Miss Graff were thrown from the car Mrs skull was fractured and she sustained severe internal injuries and many broken bones Blood transfusions failed to help her and she died without regaining consciousness Miss Graff was badly cut and bruised and had a collarbone fractured She regained consciousness Friday morning Before her marriage Mrs Litwiller was Miss MargueVite Clark daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Clark of Seward She was 18 years of age She is survived by her husband her parents one sister Bernice and one brother Jack Her father is at Mayo Bros hospital Rochester Minn where he recently underwent a surgical operation Mrs Litwiller was a girl with many fine Equalities of character that won her many friends XTR Club Picnic The annual summer picnic of the club was held at Sew-srd Wednesday evening July 15 Twenty-one ladles including members and former members of the club and several invited guests were in attendance A picnic supper was served at 7 o'clock the menu including fried chicken macaroni and cheese deviled eggs olives sliced cucumbers and onions cherry pie brick ice cream cookies coffee and fruit punch After supper the remainder of the evening was spent in watching fireworks display club members Bushels Per Acre Octavia July George Hahn had a field of wheat that made 53 bushels per acre Suffered Broken Collar Bone Rising City July 20 Patty Barker daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Barker suffered a broken collar bone one day last weeek when she fell from a swing in which she had been playing Pioneer Resident Passed On Brainard July 21 Byron Atkinson pioneer resident of Oak Creek township died at his home In Greenwood on July 6 at the age of 81 years Mr Atkinson was born in I ronton Wls In 1850 He came to Nebraska and Butler county in 1865 and homesteaded the farm two miles south of Brainard now owned by James Divis where he resided for nearly 40 years He moved to Greenwood some 20 years ago He is survived by Mrs Atkinson and two daughters and one son also one brother one sister nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren By Rising City AuxUliary Rising City July 20 Mrs George Gregory and Mrs Melford Hiatt were hostesses at the meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary held at the Gregory home In Ulysses Wednesday afternoon July 15 Report of work done by the Auxiliary showed that a gift of $200 had been sent to a patient in Fitzsimmons hospital Denver Colo $1398 realized from sale of poppies had been sent to state headquarters 14 pounds of carpet rags had been sent to veterans at Jefferson Barracks St Louis Mo and a subscription to the Literary Digest had been sent to Miss Myrtle Judd a social worker in the Home at Sawtelle Calif Mrs Charles Mor gan Mrs Stoker and Longacre were chosen to represent the Rising City American Legion Auxiliary at the state convention to be held in Fremont August 21 22 and 23 Sliver Wedding Anniversary Brainard July 21- Some 50 relatives and friends- of Mr and Mrs Joseph Dvorak gave Mr and Mrs Dvorak a surprise party Sunday July 12 in City Mr and Mrs Emil Kavaleo of Omaha and Mr and Mrs Rudolph Fujan and Mr and Mrs Frank Tesina of Weston Hip Broken In Fall Mrs Henrietta Prell who makes her home with her son Adolph Prell and who was staying at the home of her daughter Mrs John Rathjen near Gresham while her son and daughter-in-law were in Minnesota on a vacation trip had her right hip broken in a fall at the Rathjen home Tuesday afternoon July 14 Mrs Prell was on the Sidewalk about four inches high and Mrs dog ran against her unexpectedly pushing her off the walk and causing her to fall breaking her right hip She was brought to the David City hospital and is getting along as well as possible Mr and Mrs Prell were notified of the accident and arrived home Thursday afternoon They in company with Mrs Prell's son Harold Bradley and Mrs Bradley and daughter Dorothy of Lincoln had been at Vining Minn several days also had visited Itasca State Park For Rent Two good over the Butler County Bank David City rooms State printed and a copy given to every merchant in David City and copies sent to national advertisers and advertising agencies Awaiting room in the paper ami the time to put in type a synopsis of the audit and a letter from the auditor the opportunity to present them has come and they are given in belief that they make interesting reading A total circulation of 2478 is shown by the auditor's report of which 2374 is paid circulation that classification not including 42 copies to national advertisers and advertising agencies carrying advertising in The Press 37 copies to exchanges (other papers) 25 sample copies Of the 2374 paid circulation 1984 is in the trade area 390 outside the trade area The number of copies of paid circulation in the trade area includes: At David City 677 (406 in the town 271 on rural routes) Brainard 184 (67 town 117 rural) Bruno 120 (83 town 67 rural) Ulysses 132 (32 town 100 rural) Surprise 67 (23 town 44 rural) Dwight 104 (46 town 58 rural) Rising City 148 (47 town 101 rural) Bellwood 97 (25 town 72 rural) Linwood 93 (48 town 45 rural) Garrison 78 (19 town 59 rural) Abie 93 (34 town 59 rural) Octavia 28 Edholm 21 Loma 10 Seward 18 Bee 23 Prague 19 Shelby 18 various other post offices in trade area 54 Of the number listed as going to post offices in adjoining counties nearly all are to subscribers living in Butler county but getting their mail at these outside post offices There are no subscribers in arrears as The Press is not sent beyond time paid for News stand and Press office sales (included in David City ttvn figures) averaged 21 copies per week It is shown by the report that there were no offers of premiums no clubbing offers no voting contests or other pressure circulation inducements excepting the special offer in April of $100 a year for one year only the offer limited to payments in that month Responding to this offer there were 796 new subscribers and 100 renewals of subscription On account of the number of new subscribers responding to the special offer in April the circulation shows considerable increase over the figures of audit of the previous year and of the other years that audits were made The audit in 1930 showed total paid circulation of 1706 (1444 in trade area 262 outside trade area) The audit in 1929 showed total paid circulation of 1567 (1367 in trade area 290 outside trade trade area) On the other side of the 8xll sheet on which is printed the report in detail considerable information about Butler county and David City is given for benefit of national advertisers A table of retail outlets for advertisers is given showing 60 siich classifications The letter from the auditor referred to in the second paragraph of this story Is printed in another column of this issue of The Press Marriage Announced The marriage of two David City young people Mr Kenneth Van-derkolk son of Mr and Mrs Vanderkolk and Miss Phyllis Rominger daughter of Mr and Mrs Rominger was announced last week The marriage took place on January 6 at Center Knox county Mr and Mrs Vanderkolk will make their home in David City Mr Vanderkolk is associated with his father in the Golden Rod Garage and Is bookkeeper He and his
