Most of these myths lack any medical reason about how they work and many are dangerous. Obviously we should be concerned about our health.

Diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease and diabetes are too often misunderstood by their victims. Those afflicted are concerned about the disease and want it cured. Cancer is a disease that puts fear in people. Many victims of cancer seek help from unqualified, unprofessional sources who are simply out for money. Laetrile was one of the products sold as a cancer cure.

No research to date has been able to document any beneficial effect from laetrile. There have been a number of deaths due to its use, however. Mrs. Catherine Sullivan, Omaha, arrived Friday for a visit at the home Mrs. Leon Kluck and other friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn L. Barry departed for their home in Lansing, Sunday. They were here to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Francis A.

Rea. Mr. and Mrs. James Molacek were Omaha Wednesday and Thursday last week babysitting with their grandson, Derek Molacek, son of David and Vicki Molacek. David and Vicki and Ken and Donna Molacek were traveling on the River City Roundup train that passed through Schuyler last week.

David and Ken played in the band that accompanied the train. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crabb Jr. departed for their home in Roseville, after spending the week with their uncle and aunt, Mr.

and Mrs. E. Vasek, other relatives and friends. Mrs. James Svasck and Christina, Mrs Milford Svasek, Mrs.

LaVern Nadrchal Schuyler and Mrs. Ed Mastera, Richland, attended the second annual Neonatal Preemies alumni reunion at Henry Doorly Zoo Sept. 18, sponsored by Children's Hospital. The alumni and their guests were treated to a free day at the Zoo, train ride and free lunch. Christina was a patient at Children's Hospital 32 days following her birth.

Scott and Jeffrey Hirschbrunner, Columbus, were guests Saturday of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kucera while their parents attended the Nebraska-UCLA game in Lincoln. Sunday dinner and supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Bonita Hamblin, Stromsburg, also spent several days with her parents and their houseguests. Guests on Sept. 11 were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Van Cleave, Lincoln.

The Hamblins departed Sept 20 to make their home at Fort Riley, Kans. Cindy Rytych and friend of Blair were guests at the Nelson Hamblin home Friday and Sunday evenings. Mrs. Eunice Hoevet, Chadron, was honored as Volunteer of the Year for her 220 hours of volunteer service to -nursing home residents. More than 900 nursing home owners, administrators, and staff participated in the annual convention.

Mrs. William Strata funeral Saturday Pastor Robert W. Carlson officiated at the Saturday, 2 p. m. funeral of Mrs.

William (Anna) Strate, 83, at St. Johns Lutheran Church. Betty Herde served as organist. Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, was in charge of arrangements and burial was in Woodland Cemetery, North Bend. Pallbearers were Rudy, William and Amiel Schmale, Gail Bader, Eugene Seckman and Duane Hartman.

Mrs. Strate died Thursday at Bir-chwood Manor, North Bend. The daughter of William and Katherine Meyer Schmale, she was born Jan. 16, 1900, at Doniphan. North Bend had been her home since 1911.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Ernest and William all of North Bend. Three brothers, Henry, Carl and William preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. George Michaels funeral today Rev.

Andrew Meister will officiate at the 10 a m. Mass of the Resurrection today, Thursday, for George Michaels, 80, at St. Augustines Catholic Church. Rosary was recited Wednesday evening at Svoboda Funeral Home. Burial will be in Schuyler Cemetery.

A retired farmer, he died Sept. 26 at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Omaha. The son of Amos and Antonia Cech Michaels, he was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Colfax County and attended rural schools. On Feb.

18, 1925, he married Clara Blum at Heun. She preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1961. A lifetime resident of Colfax County he had served on school board district 47 and was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard and Robert, both of Salinas, Calif two daughters, Mrs. Arlene Pokomy, Fremont; (Marilyn) Mrs. Otto Sobeslavsky, Salinas, 12 grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Emma Ladwig, Schuyler. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

24. 10 a. m. funeral ol Mrs. Evelyn Bailey, 65, at United Methodist Church, ONeill.

She died Sept. 21 The daughter of Everett and Lillian Farley Welsh, she was born Jan. 31, 1918, at Platte Center. Following her father's death she and her mother moved to Columbus and lived with her grandfather, Robert Farley. She attended Columbus schools and graduated from Kramer High School in 1935.

On Aug 15, 1935, she was married to John Bailey in Schuyler. They lived in Denver and Durango, and moved to a farm in Lindsay on Jan. 15, 1948. In 1970 they moved to O'Neill where she was a member of Palestine Baptist Church, Palestine Mission Society and belonged to Bible Study. Survivors include her husband, son, Dr.

Wakeman officiated at the Monday, 1:30 p. m. funeral of Joseph Nadrchal, 94, at First Presbyterian Church. June Hespe, organist, accompanied soloist, Mrs. Don Gilmore, singing How Great Thou Art and In The Sweet By and Svoboda Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was in Schuyler Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Joe J. and David Svoboda. Daniel and Norman Uherka and Lloyd Nadrchal. A retired farmer, he died Friday at Colonial Manor, Clarkson, where he had resided since October 1978. The son of Thomas and Katherina Pesek Nadrchal, he was born Nov.

10, 1888, in Krona, Czechoslovakia. He had lived in Colfax County since coming to the United States in 1903. On Sept. 10, 1912, he married Emma Faltys in Clarkson. She preceded him in death on Nov.

ll, 1981. Mr. Nadrchal was a charter member of Bethlehem Chapel. Survivors include one son, Joseph Fremont; two daughters, (Olga) Mrs. Joe J.

Uherka, Wagner, S. (Esther) Mrs. Howard Remm, Howells; 14 grandchildren, 35 greatgrandchildren, six great-greatgrandchildren, one brother. Lad, Clarkson; two sisters, Mrs. Ema Na-jmon, Clarkson and Mrs.

Julia Nauenburg, Columbus. One son, five brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. Graveside service for Lola Enochson Rev. George Kilmer officiated at the graveside service for Lola R. Enochson, 87, Prescott, Ariz.

at 11 a m. Wednesday at Schuyler Cemetery. Arrangements were by Svoboda Funeral Home. A retired registered nurse, she died Sept. 24 at her Arizona home.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Burkerd, she was born March 17, 1896, in Wood River.

On April 4, 1921, she was married to Kenneth Enochson in Omaha. He preceded her in death in 1934. Mrs. Enochson was a member of Prescott Presbyterian Church, past matron of Eastern Star, past president of Republican Women's Gub, member of retired Federal Employees, Auxiliary of WWI Veterans and a member of AARP. Mrs.

Enochson worked at Fitzsimmons Medical Center in Denver before moving to Arizona in 1942 where she worked in the Prescott Veterans Administration Medical Center until retiring. Survivors include son, Richard, Castorville, three granddaughters, Karyn Wiemers, Richland, Karelle Cornwell, San Jose, Kendra Hines, San Luis Obispo, and three greatgrandchildren.
