Funeral service was held at a 10 a.m., June 23, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague with Rev. Ron Holmes officiating. Burial was in St. Johns Cemetery, Prague, with military honors by American Legion Post 254.

Visitation was from 2-6 p.m., June 22, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Prague. A rosary service was held at 9:30 a.m., June 23, also at the church. Tomek was born June 5, 1936, to Frank and Elsie (Roh) Tomek and graduated from Prague High School. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a member of the Prague Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans of Lincoln.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 10 years, former owner of the Prague Bar and Grill and recently retired from owning and operating TOM TOMS Bar and Grill in Dwight for 16 years. He is survived by one sister, Marlene Daily, Lincoln; one nephew, Greg (Lisa) Dailey, Lincoln; great-niece Lindsay Dailey and great-nephew, Dalton Dailey; uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be sent to family wishes. Kucera-Kracl Funeral Home, Prague, was in charge of arrangements.

Loup plans special events in Clarkson In celebration of its 75th anniversary and to say Thank You to its Colfax County customers, Loup Power District announces plans for special events during the Clarkson Czech Festival. On Sunday, June 29, from 3 to 5 p.m., Loup Power district will host a free Ice Cream Social. Also, there will be free anniversary koozies. For the Clarkson Czech Festival Parade that starts at 5 p.m., Loup Power District will participate with its colorful 75th Anniversary Float. Loup Power District encourages everyone to join in the Public programs designed to aid women and minorities would be jeopardized such as programs for domestic violence and breast cancer screening.

University of Nebraska students would be denied gender and race-specific scholarships. Nebraskas ability to develop a diverse workforce would be undercut, which is key to being competitive in the 21st century economy. The petition is misleading and has too many hidden consequences. Hahn funeral in Texas Merle Eugene Hahn, 81, died June 17, 2008, in Arlington, Tex. He will be interred at the DallasFort Worth National Cemetery, Grand Prairie, Texas. Hahn was born in Schuyler ion March 20, 1927, to George jand Florence (Matzen) Hahn. He attended Colfax County schools through his eighth jgrade year when the family moved from Schuyler to Holly-jwood, in 1942. He jattended Hollywood High School until 1945, when he Ienlisted in the U.S.

Navy in Los Calif. He served a tour of duty in the Islands of the South Pacific until the war ended. A portion of his military time was served on an amphibious personnel attach (APA) vessel. He also served on the USS Fremont. After release from the military in San Francisco, he returned to the Los Angeles area where he acquired his high school equivalent diploma at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in 1947.

Hahn worked in various construction jobs until 1951, when his unit of the California National Guard in Van Nuys was activated during the Korean conflict He held the rank of Staff Sgt. in the Air Force. After release from active duty, he was self-employed as a carpet linstaller for 30 years. He then established his own business as a locksmith and held a Los Police Department permit. He married Bertha Kudma Feb.

10, 1951, in Las Vegas, Nev. Upon retirement they sold Jheir home in Canoga Park, San Fernando Valley, and moved to Mena, where they built a new home. One of his hobbies was raising and showing of -Labrador retrievers; winning many blue ribbons. Survivors include brothers, Clinton of Arlington, Ronald of Fairview, sister, Wanda Daniels of Colorado Springs, several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years; and his parents. James Knecht service June 9 James M. Knecht died at his home in Clayton, on June 1, 2008.

He requested burial at sea, which took place June 9. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; three stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; his brother, George (Jean); four nephews and their wives; two nieces, all of California; and a sister-in-law, Lucille, of Omaha. Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Frances (Krai) Knecht; his brothers, Gordon; Glen, who was killed in action in World War II; and a son, Michael. In lieu of flowers, the family asks all memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

Central Community College -Grand Island will sponsor the free program from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 8 at the College Park Auditorium in Grand Island. In the two decades since he started as a volunteer firefighter and storm spotter, Weiss has become a nationally known storm chaser and disaster preparedness educator. He has been recognized for his work by community organizations, churches and schools throughout the U.S. and recently received a Presidential award for a lifetime of service to Americas communities.

The Grand Island program will feature breathtaking photography and unbelievable stories. Weiss will spend the evening sharing the excitement of chasing and viewing storms as well as the need for safety skills. Attendees will get a chance to examine the Chas- -ing4Life chase vehicles and to ask questions of Weiss.
