Good nutrition habits are important, as frequent eating, especially between meals, oi food containing sugar, leads to tooth decay. Heres why: sugar feeds the bacteria in the mouth and starts tooth decay by producing enamel destroying acids. The plaque (sticky colonies of harmful bacterial holds the acids to the teeth. The acids attack for at least twenty minutes after eating. The more often sugary foods are eaten, the more teeth are attacked by the acid.

So. sugary foods, if eaten at all, should be taken with meals when teeth can be cleaned afterwards. For snacks, choose non-sugar foods such as nuts, popcorn, fresh (not dried) fruit, pizza, cheese or raw vegetables. Good dental hygiene habits are importanl to remove the bacterial plaque before it can act on sugar to produce decay. Proper brushing and flossing are important to break the chain of tooth decay.

With proper care, it is totally realistic for a person teeth to last for a lifetime, but prevention must start in childhood Former Schuyler residents, Betty and Lawrence Tremain, are starring in the well-known theater delight, Arsenic and Old Lace. The mysterious comedy, under the direction of Barb Averett, is the winter production of the Platte Valley Playhouse.
