IB TV Schuyler Sun Thursday, June 9, 1977 Clarkson Community News Travnicek ii Joe L. Vacin dies unexpectedly Joe L. Vacin, 76, a 50-year Garkson businessman, died May 23 of an apparent heart attack. He was well known in the farm equipment and car dealership. The funeral was May 26 at the ZCBJ Hall, Garkson with Rev.

Kenneth Vavnna, his nephew, officiating. Bunal was in the National Cemetery. Pallbearers were James R. Harper, Anton Kucera, Richard Urbanek, Curtis Koehn, Reuben Uecker and Larry Cemy. Mr.

Vacin was born in Lamont, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vacin, March 2, 1901. He moved to Clarkson in 1912. He attended Garkson Public School and Boyles Business in Omaha.

He married Libbie Slama in 1922 Fremont and 1922 he began his automobile sales and service business. In 1935 he added John Deere farm equipment. In 1955 his nephew, Ronald joined the firm. He was active in his business until the tune of his death. He was a member of the Commercial Gub, Gty Council, former fireman.

Lions Club, Garkson Housing Authority. He is survived by his wife, Libbie, one brother, Frank.i one sister, Mrs. Martha Krurs of Los Angeles, an aunt of Abie, He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Mrs. Jos.

Martha Circle Memorial service The Martha Circle members of the New Zion Presbyterian Church had their annual memorial services June 1 at the church parlors. The cross" candles and white mums were on the table as the names of 96 deceased members were read in memory of their devotion to the first womens organization of the church. Mrs. Edwin Kabes, president, was assisted by Mrs. Robert Pokorny who was overall chairman and Mrs.

Lumir Prazak and Mrs. Norman Nadrchal. A special song Beautiful Isle of Somewhere was sung by a quintet of Miss Lillie Tichy and Mmes. John Sup, Libbie Lauda and Lumir Prazak, Edwin Kabes. Mrs.

Gilbert Koza accompanied on the piano. A Czech song was also sung as the first womens organization was conducted in the Czech language. Blessed Memories was the theme of the afternoon's program. From 1914 to 1977, 96 Martha Aid members have died and a fine tribute was paid each year for their memory. Mrs.

Kabes, president, read the 96 names. The afternoon was concluded with Czech bakery and coffee. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Oeltjen and their daughters, Mrs.

Gloria Ohlerking of Sioux City and Mrs. Lon gw Karel and Peggy of Madison visited at the Ed Hejtmanek home in Schuyler last Sunday. Mrs. Orley Renner, Howells, had as her tour guests of her country store, the Merry Farmerettes Extension Club of the Stanton and Leigh rural area. They viewed her antiques and Mrs.

Renner served lunch. Kimberly Noelle, Norfolk, spent last weekend with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Severa, rural Leigh. Mr.

and Mrs. Don Uher and their daughter, Mrs. Liesh of Green Bay, were Memorial weekend guests of Mrs. Joe Bukacek. The group enjoyed a family get-together Wednesday evening when 15 relatives gathered for a picnic type supper at the Bukacek home.

Mrs. Delbert Davidson of rural Stanton, hosted a coffee last Saturday honoring her daughter and her twin daughters, Mrs. Jerry DeLashmutt, Leah and Lori of Burlington, Iowa. Mrs. Clara Husak of Stanton Nursing Home was among the 12 guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry DeLashmutt of Burlington, Iowa spent the weekend at the Davidson home. Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Novotny of Stanton were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rozmarin. Clarkson Memorial Library and its librarian and interested people had surprise visitors at the Memorial Library Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs.

Joe Gustwo of Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Gustwo is a cousin of Dr. Kraulik, who donated the funds for the public library in the 1960s. Mrs.

Gustino the former Vlasta Drapela has visited with the Krauliks who reside in California. Mrs. Krauliks maiden name was Drapela. Local people in recipe contest The special issue of recipes sponsored by the Norfolk Daily News Contest had several area recipie contestants sending in recipies. From Clarkson, Mrs.

Reuben Dupsky and Mrs. Millard Tichota. From Stanton, Mrs. Eldon Hrouda was second place winner for her Hamburger Provencial in the microwave division. Another Stanton winner was Mrs.

Emil Mastny. A Norfolk lady, Mrs. Lemar G. Riehart, sent several recipes. She is a sister of Paul Dolezal, Clarkson, and a former Leigh and Clarkson resident.

This is the second year for such a contest sponsored by the daily paper. Memorial weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bra bee Sr. were Mr.

and Mrs. Wayne Skarda of Papillion, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Swanson and family of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs.

Lumir Brabec and family of Octavia. Guests from Heun, Howells and Dodge Catholic parishes were present for the monthly Catholic Guild June 1 at Bishop Neumann Hall. No meeting was held. The afternoon was spent at cards with Mrs. John Svehla as Taroks winner, Mrs.

Helen Yosten, Pinochle winner. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Ben Wisnieski of Dodge and Mrs. John Bahns. Hostesses were Mrs.

Charles Prokopec and Mrs. Anton Podany. Mr. and Mrs. Joe W.

Travnicek observed their 33rd wedding anniversary May 29 when a few friends came for an informal evening at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wolff presented a decorated cake for them as they were unable to attend. Mrs.

Travnicek is Clarksons rural correspondent for The Schuyler Sun and for The Colfax County Press. Mrs. Hilda Branzo of Fort Dodge, Iowa was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Kabes and family.

Mrs. Jerry Nutil was 500" Card Club hostess May 26. Mrs. A. J.

O'Brien and Mrs. Adolph Kudma were guest players. Winners were 1st, Mrs. Joe Lauda; 2nd high, Mrs. Louis Evert and 3rd, Mrs.

Hermie Kabes. June hostess will be Mrs. Philip Swoboda. Mr. and Mrs.

Robert Fechner of Albion were last Wednesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed J. Pekny. The Kasper Luxa annual get-together picnic was May 29 at the Clarkson Park with 60 relatives attending from Clarkson, Leigh, Schuyler, Norfolk, Lindsay, Omaha and Fullerton.

This is held each Sunday of the Memorial weekend. The Rev. William (Bill) Mulford of Omaha was the guest minister at the New Zion Presbyterian Church May 29. The Rev. Lyle R.

Meester and his wife and little girls are on a weeks vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gustinoof Seattle, spent some time in Nebraska where they visited in Clarkson, Howells, Leigh and Stanton. Mrs.

Gustino is the former Vlasta Drapela formerly from the Clarkson Stanton area. Circle members enjoy breakfast Ruth Circle enjoyed an 8 30 a. m. outdoor breakfast at the home of. Mrs.

T. C. Chudomelka, as hostess and her co-hostess Mrs. Adrian Horak, served a two-course breakfast on the lawn of the Chudomelka home. The setting was perfect for the study lesson presented by Mrs.

Alan Dusatko, who chose lesson four in the Concern magazine. A silent Communion was part of the lesson as a recording was used for the background Mrs. Alice Terpstra, The Ruth Circle shut-in, was present and a guest Sue Heckman was also present. The Ruth Circle will not meet until Sept. 1.

Sixteen members and one guest were present. Couple honored on anniversary Relatives and friends from Leigh, Clarkson, Schuyler, Columbus, Howells, and Stanton were present from this area to attend the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Swoboda of rural Garkson. Also attending was her mother, Mrs.

Edna Harsch, who was observing her 91st birthday June 6. The open house was held at St. Johns Lutheran School. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs.

Kennard Pohlman, Brent and Amy of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Don Swoboda, Theresa and Sherri of Lincoln. Assisting at the reception table were Mrs. Newell Sorensen of Carroll, Iowa, Mrs.

Don Swoboda, Mrs Daryl Schlautmann, Valene and Susan Schellpepper. Registering the guests was Mrs. David Scherer. Leona Harsch and Steve Swoboda were married June 29, 1937 at Stanton and have resided on farms southeast of Stanton the past 40 years. They are semi-retired farmers.

They are members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stanton. She is president of the churches afternoon Ladies Aid. They are also active in the churches activities. She is a member of Haymow Homemakers Extension Gub and Sunnyside Community Gub.

He served on' the school board of Oist. 28 for many years. Their two children are Beverly, Mrs. Ken Pohlman and Eton of Lincoln. He is associated with Agriculture Extension Service.

There are four grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Harsch of Arizona and Mrs. Pearl Daniel of California were out-of-state relatives who attended.

Saturday guests of Mrs. Hermie Kabes and Lester were Mr. and Mrs. Ryan of California, Mr. and Mrs.

Gene Kabes of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kabes and Mrs. Sylvia Sindelar of Omaha. Mrs.

Sylvia Sindelar, Omaha, was a weekend guest of Mrs. Bessie Sobeslavsky. Mrs. Sindelar was here to attend memorial services. She is one of the Gold Star Mothers of the Garkson Auxiliary.

A singing group, Sweet Surrender" from The Hope Presbyterian Church of Minneapolis, were in Garkson June 6 for a singing engagement. The 12 or so young people toured area Presbyterian churches. A similar group called Children of Hope of the Hope Presbyterian Church have been here twice previously. 1977, at 8:30 A M. Present were: Edward Ehlers, James L. Waters and Lambert E. Karel, Members of the County Board of Equalization, Chester Guidinger, County Assessor and Lamar J. Brdicko, County Gerk and Gerk of the Board of Equalization.

Notice of this meeting was given in advance thereof by posting written notice in at least three different public places, as shown by the Certificate of Posting Notice attached to these minutes. Notice of this meeting was given to the Chairman of the Board and all Members of the Board of Equalization and a copy of their acknowledgement of receipt of said Notice and the proposed agenda for said meeting is attached to these minutes. Availability of the proposed agenda was communicated in the advanced Notice and in the Notice to the Board of Equalization of this meeting. All proceedings hereinafter shown were taken while the meeting was officially convened and while said meeting was open to public attendance.
